One of the nicest laptops I have owned,
I am not a novice to technology starting in the 1990′s with DOS. Having owned 6 laptops prior I was sold on Dell until lately. Their customer service, battery life, HD crashes, etc. caused me to look at other brands.
The Hewlett Packard DV6-3240 us initially caught my eye do to the style; sleek, lighted logo, and pewter color. Sweet. But the real love affair begins when you open the lid – lighted, spill resistant keyboard, quick keys (email, browser, print calculator, etc. to the left) blu-ray, finger print identification, burns your label on your cd…wow. When watching videos streamed or Youtube, I would have to wait for it to buffer. No more. The HD sound and picture is phenomenal. I love this computer. Even the HP backgrounds are amazing.
The finger print ID is a plus. No more logging in, remembering your password, looking for where you wrote it down…having that “Oh yeah, I had to change it, but what is it?” moment. After you do the initial set up…wah-la…swipe your finger and you’re in. This until pairs beautifully with the HP printer (yes, I threw the Dell wireless printer out the door after reinstalling the drivers no less than 15+ times due to no communication…grrrrrr). The set up is a breeze. As you can tell, I definitely recommend this computer.

|Long live HP,
Wow! Had the laptop for couple weeks before I realized it has a back-lit keyboard. Super feature to have, especially when you can’t control the area’s lighting. As far as speed goes, it boots up in LESS than a minute. Wireless network installation was a breeze. Transferring data from an old PC to this one is a little tricky – suggest researching that subject (called Easy Transfer) so you can also order the optional software/special-USB-cable and have it arrive at the same time as the laptop. Keyboard is ‘almost’ the same size/layout as a desktop keyboard. Never cared for the touchpad but this one was easy – although I did hook up a wireless mouse and use that exclusively (when able). The sound is ample and I’m critical about that feature – use it a lot for downloading/making MP3 disks. Plenty of hard-disk storage and the selection of jacks are perfect and well placed. The screen is crystal clear and can be adjusted using the function keys (and so can the sound). Have’nt used the built-in Mic/Camera yet. It’s a little heavy for a laptop so I bought a soft carrying case to make it easier to carry around. Also bought a shell (hard case) which is like sealing the laptop in plastic – highly recommended. If you don’t mind the heavyness due to the large screen (and 5+ hour battery life capability), can’t think of a better buy!

|extremely disappointed in HP,
I was excited to find this laptop for such a good price. Great speed, memory size, and even a fingerprint reader. Sadly, when I took the laptop out of its box it had one of the back panels installed improperly, crooked no less. I initially decided to overlook this due to other reviews being good. I could easily get this fixed for a small fee by a computer repairman. Bad choice. As I was setting up the laptop and making it my own, I realized that their was a grating, clicking sound coming from the inside of the computer. I immediately called HP Support (which should probably be renamed) and had the most awful customer service experience of my life. I told the rep the problems I had and asked for a replacement. He said replacements were only given within 14 days of purchase. It had only been 4 days since I placed my order with Amazon so I was quite confused. I was told their records indicate that I had bought the laptop roughly 4 months ago (?!?) Therefore there was not much they could do for me. I requested a supervisor and was told NO. I was then told if I could fax proof right then to him that I had just bought the laptop then they would consider other options. Consider? I paid for a new product that should be in perfect condition. Then I was placed on hold. After almost a half hour waiting on hold I decided to hang up and just do a return to Amazon.
